Les Sables-d'Olonne ist seit 1989 der Heimathafen der Vendée Globe: Die Skipper laufen durch den Kanal von Port Olona aus und ein, gesäumt von Zehntausenden Zuschauern. Auch das Golden Globe Race, eine Retro-Weltumsegelung, und die Mini Transat starten in diesem Hafen der Vendée.
