About Offshore Races
The project
Offshore Races (Courses au large in French) shows the courses of the great offshore sailing races on a globe: Vendée Globe, Route du Rhum, The Ocean Race, Transat Café L'Or, the Fastnet and many more. Each race has its own page with its course, start dates, record and recent winners, in English and French.
The site is free and needs no account. It is funded by ad spaces sold directly to advertisers, with no ad network and no ad tracking.
Who makes it
The site is designed and built by Antoine Labbé, a developer based in Bordeaux, France, who publishes it and writes the blog articles. The project is built in public on taraxe.com.
Where the information comes from
- Start dates, courses, records and winners come from the races' and organisers' official websites, Wikipedia and the sailing press. Each race page lists its sources and shows when it was last updated.
- Courses are indicative: they follow the marks set by the organiser (capes, islands, gates), but the boats' actual route depends on the weather.
- Photos are freely licensed (Wikimedia Commons) and credited under each image.
- The site is not affiliated with any race, organiser or class.
