Offshore Races

Global Challenge

The 'wrong way' round-the-world race, east to west, sailed by amateur crews.

Devised by Chay Blyth, the race put paying crew members on identical one-designs, sailing against the prevailing winds of the Southern Ocean. The last edition, in 2004-05, left Portsmouth with stopovers in Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town, Boston and La Rochelle.
